Ever present in history and worldwide is the icon of the skull. It is not the only Vanitas symbol but it is the primary one. This site explores found, accidental, supposed and constructed images of Vanitas, primarily the skull, as a symbol of both the eternal and the ephemeral.

Alas poor Yorik
This human skull was bequeathed to the Royal Shakespeare Company in London to be used in productions of Hamlet as Yorik's skull. And its is!
